Faculty from SUNY Potsdam have a number of places to start if they want to live, work, and do research abroad.

  1. Develop a short-term travel course

  2. Advising Students

These are key resources to be familiar with if you are advising a student on study abroad options. You can always direct students to the Lougheed Center for Applied Learning - they can make an appointment through Handshake.

  3. Field Trips to Canada
    • Please contact the LoCAL - appliedlearning@potsdam.edu or x2507 - to discuss the current requirements for Canadian field trips. In general, the following policies apply:
      • SUNY Procedure 8952, International Travel with Students
      • SUNY-mandated International Health Insurance must be purchased for each student participating in any cross-border trip; this is usually less than $3/day and is not optional. The staff in the LoCAL will manage this process on behalf of the course and the students, but require at least 10 days notice of the proposed travel to do so.
      • Other current issues may affect the ability to run day trips; please consult with the LoCAL team

  4. Make use of existing links with partner universities abroad
SUNY Potsdam faculty have completed reciprocal exchanges with faculty of several of the exchange partners we currently have formal relationships with. Those campuses include:
This kind of exchange is most successful if faculty can trade places, teaching some of the courses normally offered and sometimes even trading houses, cars, and pets!
    • Liverpool Hope University in Liverpool UK
    • York St. John University in York UK
    • Universitat Potsdam in Potsdam Germany
    • Kyiv National Economic University in Kyiv Ukraine
    • University of Cienfuegos, Cienfuegos Cuba
This kind of exchange is most successful if faculty can trade places, teaching some of the courses normally offered and sometimes even trading houses, cars, and pets!

  5. Fulbright Scholar Program
These programs offer U.S. faculty, administrators and professionals, grants to lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields, or to participate in international seminars.
