Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey
The Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education is a research-practice partnership and network of peer institutions dedicated to improving outcomes in faculty recruitment, development, and retention. Under COACHE, more than 250 colleges, universities, and state systems have strengthened their capacity to identify the drivers of faculty success and implement informed changes.
Cooperative Institutional Research Program Freshman Survey (CIRP)
For over 2 decades, SUNY Potsdam has participated in the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) Freshman Survey. Freshman complete the survey during the summer orientation sessions in July. This annual data provides valuable profile regarding the background, attitudes, behavior and aspirations of an incoming cohort of students. Data analyzed over several years also inform faculty and College administration of important trends.
COVID-19 Surveys
During the COVID-19 pandemic, SUNY Potsdam shifted learning to an online environment. In order to hear concerns from students, SUNY developed several assessments of campuses' response to remote learning. These surveys included the SUNY Student Remote Instruction Survey (Spring 2020), the SUNY COVID Impact on Employees Survey (Summer 2020) and the SUNY Student Satisfaction and Planning Survey (Fall 2020). Additionally, SUNY Potsdam partnered with NSSE to administer the NSSE Pulse survey in Fall 2020. Results from these surveys can be found on this page.
HEDS Diversity and Equity Campus Climate Survey
In spring 2019, SUNY Potsdam participated in the HEDS Diversity and Equity Campus Climate Survey. The purpose of this survey was for leadership at SUNY Potsdam to find out more about how students, faculty, staff, and administrators perceive SUNY Potsdam’s climate and level of support for diversity and equity and their experiences with discrimination and harassment.
National Study of Student Engagement
The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) collects information annually from samples of first year and senior students about the nature and quality of their undergraduate experience. Since its inception, nearly 1,400 baccalaureate-granting colleges and universities in the US and Canada have used NSSE to measure the extent to which students engage in effective educational practices that are empirically linked with learning ,personal development, and used by faculty administrators, researchers,and others for institutional improvement,accountability and related purposes.

The #RealCollege survey is aimed at revealing the daily experiences of college student and how they meet their basic needs.
Student Satisfaction Survey (SSS) / Student Opinion Survey (SOS)
The 2021 SSS is the thirteenth System-wide administration of a student opinion survey for both the 2-year and 4-year institutions over the past thirty years; however, the 2021 survey marks the inaugural year for the new SUNY in-house survey administration. In previous iterations of the survey, the survey was called the Student Opinion Survey (SOS) and was administered by American College Testing, Inc. (ACT) in collaboration with SUNY System Administration.
The primary purpose of the SOS is to inform administrators about the status of the college's academic, student, and administrative programs, services and facilities as perceived by undergraduate students. Campus administrators use this information to identify areas that need attention and/or further analysis. The SOS also identifies areas that are meeting and/or exceeding expectations and data are collected every 3 years.
SUNY Sexual Violence Prevention Survey
Since 2017, SUNY Potsdam has participated in the SUNY Sexual Violence Prevention Survey every two years. Sexual assault is a significant challenge for colleges nationwide, affecting the health, mental health, and success of students and employees. To help address these issues, SUNY developed this assessment tool to collect data to better understand the nature and scope of the problem, students' and employees' knowledge about reporting policies and resources for victims, their attitudes about prevention, and their perceptions about how their community is addressing the problem of sexual violence.
