October 13, 2023
Good morning,
I hope your semester is going well, and that you’re enjoying the beautiful transition from summer to fall. I wanted to provide a brief update of where we are in two important processes—our Framework for Fiscal Health and our strategic planning.
At this point, Provost Hersker has met with all Deans and stakeholders for the programs under consideration for discontinuance. He and the Deans also met with the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and they are in their two-week period during which they can compile and submit feedback on the programs. The deadline for this feedback is October 19. At that time, the Provost and Deans will meet to review all feedback provided and make a recommendation to the President’s Council for consideration for each program under review. The President’s Council will meet on October 20 to review these recommendations. Following those deliberations, all proposals to deactivate or discontinue programs will be submitted to SUNY System Administration for final approval, per SUNY policy #1701. Once SUNY makes their decision it is then reviewed by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). We will send an email to the campus letting everyone know what goes forward from here to the SUNY System for consideration. I appreciate your continued participation in conversations about our financial stability plan, and the feedback that has been provided throughout this process.
We are also continuing to move forward with the strategic planning process. The committee met for the first time yesterday afternoon and talked about the information that was gathered during the opening meeting. They looked at categories or patterns of responses, and utilized that information to come up with a list of questions to guide conversations on the listening tour. Thank you again to everyone who is giving of their time and talent to this important project.
I hope you have a good weekend, and, as always, feel free to reach out if you have questions or comments.
Thanks,
Suzanne
