SUNY Potsdam has two policies regarding the care and use of animals in academic programs and facilities:
The Display Animal Policy (PDF) applies to animals being used only for display purposes and is overseen by the Health and Safety Office of the College. Its primary purpose is to assure the safety and welfare of animals maintained on campus and of those who care for or handle them.
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Policy (PDF) applies to animals used for ANY experimental purpose, to assure that all research projects involving the use of animals are in full compliance with guidelines set by federal and state agencies such as the National Institutes of Health Guide fore the Care and Use of Animals. The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee makes recommendation to the College?s designated Institutional Official, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
