Fire Tower Steward
Friends of Blue Mountain
Blue Mountain Lake, NY 12812
"My summer up on Blue Mountain was one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life. I was able to work with the Friends of Blue Mountain and the DEC to educate the public about the rich history of the Adirondacks, as well as help maintain trails with the Forest ranger. I was privy to some of the most spectacular sunsets, and sunrises I have ever seen, and every day I learned something new about the environment and myself. My days entailed a variety of activities from, moving lumber, to clearing brush, working with the public, and visiting local resorts to teach about preparedness in the woods. This job was a wonderful way to infuse my personal passion of photography and art with my Communication and Environmental degrees. I came back from my summer on the mountain with a renewed sense of enthusiasm for the preservation of our wilderness areas and outdoor recreation, as well as many new friends who work in the outdoor field."
