For Canadian students, SUNY Potsdam’s School of Education and Professional Studies has years of experience helping our neighbors from the north get your Ontario certification as well.
Here’s how:
- Register with the Ontario College of Teachers at the beginning of your student teaching semester.
- Once you graduate and earn your SUNY Potsdam degree, request your official college transcript.
- SUNY Potsdam will send the official transcript (once it’s been requested) along with your Statement of Professional Standing to the Ontario College of Teachers.
- The Ontario College of Teachers has access to your TEACH account, and will begin the OCT evaluation process once the New York State teaching certificate has been issued (usually within 24 hours of the final requirement being completed).
- Once the OCT requirements are met, eligible candidates will be issued a Primary/Junior division certificate (Kindergarten to Grade 6) or an Intermediate/Senior division certification (Grades 7 to 12).
