Title: Representation of Black Characters in Popular Television Programs and Implicit Bias
I plan on studying the messages television programs present about Black people. I intend on answering the following question: have these messages aided in implicit bias amongst television watchers and what kind of impact have they had on Black people? I will be conducting a content analysis on several shows that are successful with their representation of Black characters, and shows that have had poor portrayals of Black people. Along with a content analysis, I plan on conducting several focus groups, with the goal of gathering data on viewer's perceptions of Black television characters and Black People overall. Through my research, I hope to identify the various messages shows send about Black people and find the correlation between those messages and implicit bias.
