B.A. in Chemistry

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in chemistry at SUNY Potsdam is ideally suited for students interested in careers in biotechnology, analytical labs, chemical industry, pharmacy, patent law, forensic science, secondary science education and other fields of science. The program is centered on a core chemistry curriculum that is smoothly integrated with various biological and arts-related courses offering students the flexibility to pursue other interests. Students will gain the necessary skills to analyze and solve modern problems through exposure to foundation coursework in chemistry. The laboratory component of the curriculum provides students with hands-on experience and exposes them to state-of-the-art instrumentation. Students hone their skills by working closely with faculty in research and advanced courses with small class sizes.

After serving in Afghanistan as a hospital corpsman during a seven-year stint in the U.S Navy, Kellen Bertrand ’21 returned stateside and set his sights on getting a degree at SUNY Potsdam. He’s now in his final year at the College, and wrapping up a degree in biology and chemistry all while maintaining an impressive 4.0 GPA. In the spring he will be applying to medical school where he plans to parlay his success in into a lifelong career.
