Music Performance

B.M. in Music Performance

The Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance is offered in percussion, piano, string instruments (including guitar and harp), wind instruments and voice.

Students in the program will study with a faculty of nationally and internationally respected musicians, all of whom are active professional performers.

In addition to our outstanding bands, choirs, and orchestras, Crane also offers an enticing array of smaller Performance Ensembles. Our performance standards are high. 

Upon graduation, Crane students are routinely accepted for graduate study in performance at top-tier conservatories and universities around the country. A number of our alumni have won major competitions, and others are employed by important symphony orchestras and opera houses.

Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • notate a newly encountered melody accurately and efficiently.
  • demonstrate competency in musical performance.
  • demonstrate knowledge of pivotal historical events, societal attitudes, aesthetic and artistic trends, and to identify their interrelationship with music.
  • synthesize technical and musical knowledge via musical performance.

To address the pain and discomfort that musicians often deal with from long hours of performance, Assistant Professor Tracy Lipke-Perry has responded with a new research project to analyze the posture and ergonomics of more than 20 musicians in a cutting-edge motion capture study at The Crane School of Music.

From Zeppelin to Mozart

Introduced to music on his father’s electric guitar, Alex Mariano ’21 played the songs of Led Zeppelin and Van Halen throughout his youth. Now he’s pursuing a music performance degree at The Crane School of Music where he’s been mastering the classical guitar under the guidance of Dr. Douglas Rubio.
