Crane Symphony Orchestra Presents its First Concert of Season

Crane Symphony Orchestra at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music to Dedicate Oct. 7 Performance to Late Professor Emeritus John Jadlos 

The Crane Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Dr. Ching-Chun Lai. The orchestra will present its first concert of the semester on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. in Hosmer Hall, also streaming live at potsdam.edu/cranelive.

The Crane Symphony Orchestra will present an evening of beloved works in its first concert of the semester on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m., in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music.  

The performance will open with Igor Stravinsky’s “Suite No. 1 for Small Orchestra,” followed by Richard Wagner’s symphonic poem, “Siegfried Idyll.” Wagner’s work was originally composed as a love letter to his wife and later incorporated as a theme in the composer’s opera “Siegfried.” The concert will conclude with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Symphony No. 36,” also known as the “Linz Symphony.” 

The Crane Symphony Orchestra has dedicated this performance to the late Professor Emeritus Dr. John Jadlos, who passed away in August 2021. Dr. Jadlos was a longtime string faculty member at The Crane School of Music, and former conductor of the ensemble. 

The Crane Symphony Orchestra is the second oldest college orchestra in the United States, and in its long legacy, students at Crane have worked with legendary conductors and musicians, such as Nadia Boulanger, Sarah Caldwell, Aaron Copland, Howard Hanson, Gunther Schuller and Robert Shaw, to name a few. Directed by Dr. Ching-Chun Lai, the Crane Symphony Orchestra is a premier, 66-member performing ensemble at The Crane School of Music. The Crane Symphony Orchestra has performed in Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center and in Carnegie Hall, among other prestigious venues. 

This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
