The Crane School of Music invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Piano. Responsibilities include teaching applied studio for music majors in all Crane undergraduate and graduate programs, teaching piano-related courses (piano literature, chamber ensemble coaching, art of accompanying); engaging in activity as a soloist and collaborative performer; leadership in recruitment and retention of outstanding piano students; and other duties assigned according to experience, expertise and/or departmental needs. Student advising, service, and continued professional engagement are expected as part of the position.
Required qualifications include a master’s degree in piano (solo or collaborative focus); demonstrated success as a studio piano teacher; substantial and ongoing solo and collaborative performing experience; and communication/interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
Preferred qualifications include a completed doctoral degree in piano (solo or collaborative focus); two years of successful college-level teaching experience beyond the teaching assistant level; proven record of solo and collaborative performances at the highest level in a wide range of venues; a record of success in recruitment of piano students to a college program; and demonstrated engagement in professional development activities enhancing knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion fostering the success of underrepresented groups in a supportive and inclusive environment.
