Residence Life is accepting on-line applications for a full-time, 10-month, live-in Counselor in Residence to support the academic and personal growth of students through the provision of preventative programming and on-site, easily accessed consultation and mental health support services.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing hours to residents for mental health consultation and brief counseling; Facilitating group therapy in the residence halls; conducting preventative and psycho-educational programming; providing follow-up services to residents and staff following crisis situations; consulting with Residence Life staff on mental-health situations; and evening and weekend work is expected related to department processes and emergency/crisis response. While the position will report to the Director of Residence Life, counseling hours will be supervised by the Director of the Counseling Center including provisional hours required for licensure.
Required qualifications: a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work or related field from an accredited institution as well as a license or provisional license to provide counseling in New York State. Preferred qualifications: experience working with college aged students, especially in a residential setting; excellent administrative, communication, leadership, decision-making skills and the ability to work autonomously in a team atmosphere.
