SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music invites the public to enjoy a faculty recital featuring soprano Colleen Skull and pianist François Germain on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.
The performance will open with selections from Hector Berlioz’s “Les Nuits D’Été, Op. 7 (Summer Nights),” and from Sergei Rachmaninov’s “Twelve Romances, Op. 21.” The duo will then present “Three Early Songs” by George Crumb and three of Arnold Schoenberg’s “Brettl-Lieder (Cabaret Songs).”
This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Dr. Colleen Skull has performed with leading orchestras and opera companies including the Canadian Opera Company, Pacific Opera Victoria, Manitoba Opera, Esprit Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony and many others. She is well versed in both soprano and mezzo-soprano repertoire, having performed professionally in both fachs. Recent performances include the title roles in “Ariadne auf Naxos,” “La Voix Humaine” and “Jenůfa.” Other roles include Dido in “Dido and Aeneas,” Mrs. Grosse in “The Turn of the Screw,” Wellgunde in “Götterdämmerung,” Alice Ford in “Falstaff,” Fiordiligi in “Così fan Tutte,” Agathe in “Der Freischütz,” Jocasta in “Oedipus Rex,” Liza in “Pique Dame,” Marina in “Boris Godunov,” Zulma in “L’Italiana in Algeri,” Mère Marie de l'Incarnation in “Dialogues des Carmélites,” and Waltraute, Rossweise and Siegrune in “Die Walküre.” Skull is a past member of the prestigious Canadian Opera Company Ensemble, and has won many awards and prizes, including the Metropolitan Opera District Competition, a Chalmers Award and a Professional Artist Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Radio and television appearances include performances on CBC Radio, CTV, “Definitely Not the Opera with Sook-Yin Lee,” “Breakfast Television,” TVO and YTV. Skull completed her Doctorate in Musical Arts, specializing in voice performance, at the University of Toronto. She is an assistant professor of voice at The Crane School of Music.

Pianist Dr. François Germain is a native French and German speaker, specializing in French mélodie, lieder and art song. He served from 2002 to 2007 at the University of Montreal as a vocal coach and assistant to Rosemarie Landry (a disciple of Pierre Bernac and Gerard Souzay), where he acquired a unique expertise in French lyric diction and style, and has worked as a coach/répétiteur for the University of Miami Frost School of Music Program in Salzburg, Austria, as well as for Operetta Belle Lurette in Québec. He currently teaches piano, vocal coaching and opera at The Crane School of Music.
