The Crane Latin Ensemble will present a program of Afro-Cuban dance music on Friday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. at SUNY Potsdam’s Sara M. Snell Music Theater. Poet and SUNY Potsdam Professor Oscar Sarmiento will also read selected poems during the performance.
The music program will include pieces in traditional styles, such as Mambo, Cha-Cha, and Cuban Son, as well as contemporary Latin Jazz. The group is proud to present this concert as they prepare to depart for a week-long cultural exchange in Cienfuegos, Cuba.
Led by faculty directors Marsha Baxter and Peter McCoy, 25 Crane Latin Ensemble students and Professor Oscar Sarmiento, will embark on a cultural journey to the Universidad de Cienfuegos in Cuba from March 25 through April 1. They will attend intensive workshops on Latin music and Cuban history and have the opportunity to study and perform Afro-Cuban music with master Cuban musicians.
This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
