The Research Foundation for SUNY, a private, not-for-profit corporation, invites applications for an Education Specialist for the North Country Science and Technology Entry Program (NCSTEP) at SUNY Potsdam. NCSTEP is a New York State Education Department grant program designed to increase access for underrepresented secondary students into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) related fields/careers and those of the licensed professions. NCSTEP serves underrepresented minority and/or economically disadvantaged students in grades 7-12 at Salmon River, Massena, Potsdam, Parishville-Hopkinton, and Madrid-Waddington Central School Districts.
Duties include, but are not limited to, providing educational and career services and guidance for participants. The Education Specialist will offer academic support services including workshops covering study skills; plan career/college field trips; assist in a residential summer camp; provide assistance with college preparation and enrollment; and facilitate internship and research opportunities. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain positive relationships with the student populations served; the faculty, administration, and staff of the schools served; and the North Country community as a whole. Occasional weekend and/or evening hours may be required.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree with related experience. Preferred qualifications include counseling, tutoring, or student teaching the target population and a background in science, math and/or technology. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license. Renewal of appointment is subject to The Research Foundation for SUNY policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines, and the availability of annual funding.
