The Department of Special Programs is accepting on-line applications for full time, temporary, Academic Advisor – Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Counselor. Reporting to the Director of EOP, the Counselor will be responsible for all assignments and/or projects related to the counseling of EOP students.
Duties include, but are not limited to: maintain a counseling relationship with program students by providing individual and group counseling sessions relating to academic, financial, career and personal counseling matters; will submit quarterly, semester and other counseling reports as required by the Director; participate in the EOP transfer student orientation; maintain virtual and in- person office hours, work with new students in the Pre-freshman Summer Program; provide support to the EOP admissions process; maintain logs of daily counseling activities; pay special attention to retention problems; monitor filing of financial aid applications; serve on EOP standing committees and participate in other campus and community activities that involve EOP students. Using the group counseling approach, the EOP Counselor will teach and reinforce various levels of Time Management, Study Skills, Note Taking Skills, Research Methods (both on-line and library), and techniques of information validation.
BA degree in Sociology, Psychology, or related human services is required as is a valid driver’s license. Master’s Degree in Counseling or related field, experience working in a secondary or post-secondary setting, and Spanish language skills preferred.
