LoKo Arts Festival
This spring, the annual LoKo Arts Festival will take place April 26 - May 5. The 10-day celebration of the arts at SUNY Potsdam includes theatre, dance, vocal and instrumental performances; visual arts exhibitions; creative writing workshops and readings; and guest artist visits.
Throughout the festival, students, faculty, and visiting artists will present over 40 free events that celebrate the diversity of artistic expression. In addition to popular annual events (such as the Crane spring concert, Senior Choreographer Show and Festival of Light), there will be many opportunities for you and your students to enjoy novel perspectives and learn from respected artists. For instance, you can…
- Experience a spoken word performance by Melissa Lozada-Oliva, a nationally-recognized writer, performer and winner of the National Poetry Slam Competition.
- Study the intricate beadwork of Niio Perkins (Bear Clan, Haudenosaunee) an award-winning designer whose work was shown at Indigenous Fashion Week Toronto.
- View the first feature-length documentary by alumnus Todd McGrain ’83, which documents the extinction crisis of the Forest Elephants of Central Africa.
- Plus, witness many more artist presentations from a variety of disciplines. All the visiting LoKo artists are listed online along with their complete biographies.
Also, make sure to join us downtown on Saturday, April 27, when LoKo takes over Market Street for a new one-day outdoor event!
