The Crane School of Music Opens New Academic Year with Faculty Gala

SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music Opens Concert Season with Faculty Gala on Sept. 3 in Hosmer Hall 

Associate Professor of Saxophone Dr. Casey Grev is among the performers for the Crane Faculty Gala at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music, to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Hall. The concert will also stream live online. For more, see www.potsdam.edu/cranelive.

SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music will officially open the 2024-25 academic year with the annual Faculty Gala, on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall. The performance will also stream live online, at  potsdam.edu/cranelive.  

The Crane Faculty Gala highlights members of Crane’s illustrious and world-renowned faculty of scholars and artists, and serve as a welcome to all new and returning Crane students.  

This year’s varied gala program will take listeners on a journey through many genres and time periods, with 23 faculty members taking to the stage throughout the evening. Works will span from classic operatic arias, chamber music, sonatas and contemporary works. 

The performance will include works by Anthony DiLorenzo, Fernande Decruck, Gian Carlo Mennotti, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sarah Feigin, Luis Naón and Keith Gates. 

This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.  

Performers include:  

  • Brass faculty:  Lauren Becker (horn), Charles Guy (tuba), Christopher Hernacki (trombone), Christopher Keach (trumpet), Luke Spence (trumpet)  
  • Percussion faculty: Emma Gierszal (vibraphone) 
  • Staff piano and functional keyboard faculty:  Keilor Kastella, Julie Miller and Rosemarie Suniga 
  • String faculty:  Marie-Élaine Gagnon (cello), John Geggie (double bass), Jennifer Kessler (violin), Shelly Tramposh (viola), Timothy Yip (violin) 
  • Voice faculty:  Margaret Chalker (soprano), Nathan Strock (bass-baritone), Andrew Voelker (piano)  
  • Woodwind faculty:  Julianne Kirk Doyle (clarinet), Casey Grev (alto saxophone), Anna Hendrickson (oboe), Christine Hoerning (clarinet), Carol Lowe (bassoon), Jill Rubio (flute) 

SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music will open the 2024-25 concert season with the Faculty Gala, on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Hall.
