Piano Technician Vacancy

The Crane School of Music is accepting on-line applications for a full-time Senior Piano Technician.

Responsibilities include care for stringed keyboard instrument inventory of over 150 pianos and a select number of historical keyboard instruments; concert preparation of artist caliber for visiting artists and faculty; supervision of the moving and relocating of pianos, in collaboration with the facilities manager; tuning, regulating, and rebuilding of instruments; supervision of contractual assistants; and other duties assigned according to experience, expertise and/or departmental needs. The Crane School of Music is an All-Steinway School. 

Required qualifications include high school diploma; proven record of artist caliber piano maintenance, regulation, and preparation; and ability to collaborate successfully with professional colleagues. The position may require some evening and weekend work and requires the ability to undertake physical tasks (such as lifting, bending, stooping, and reaching) to complete instrument setup, movement of equipment and supplies, and other tasks. Selected candidate will be expected to possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues. 

Preferred qualifications include Registered Piano Technician Certification through the Piano Technicians Guild; bachelor’s degree; five years’ experience as a technician; strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to develop and implement a short- and long-term maintenance plan that involves repairs, rebuilding or replacement of instruments, piano supplies, and the supervision of contractual assistants.
