Program Coordinator Vacancy for Department of Elementary Education

Department of Elementary Education, part of the School of Education and Professional Studies, is accepting on-line applications for a full-time, tenure-track program coordinator to support offerings of their full-time Childhood/ Early Childhood Education program (Birth-6th) at the Jefferson Community College location in Watertown, NY. As a program coordinator, the position is a ten-month employment; it is likely that additional summer duties will also be expected. The applicant will have a leading role in the full implementation of this program. The position is ideal for an individual who enjoys the challenge of establishing new processes for program success. Start date for the position is flexible, and can be as early as August 2020. 

Responsibilities: a successful candidate will: 1) maintain a teaching load of at least six (6) credit hours per semester to include practicum courses (308 or 408), and student teaching (EDUC 425 & 426), 2) establish needs and scheduling education program courses each semester in consultation with SUNY Potsdam School of Education support personnel and appropriate Arts and Sciences Department, 3) engage and plan for academic advising of students in the program in consultation with SUNY Potsdam School of Education support personnel and appropriate Arts and Sciences Department, 4) supervise field- based experiences (practicum and student-teaching) working in partnership with the Director of the Center for School Partnership and Teacher Certification and local schools in the Watertown area, 5) collaborate with assessment personnel and program faculty to assist in writing program reports related to assessment and accreditation timelines (i.e. Specialty Program Assessment (SPA) reports, Campus Assessment Cycle), 6) establish regular meeting times for Watertown program faculty and attend relevant department and program meetings in keeping with roles and responsibilities, and 7) coordinate, develop and maintain ongoing communication and relationships across locations (i.e. Watertown and SUNY Potsdam School of Education). Faculty may be asked to develop hybrid or on-line courses. The incumbent may be required to teach evening, weekend, off-site, and/or online courses. 

Qualifications: a successful candidate should have: 1) earned a master’s degree in a field of education, 2) at least five years of teaching experience at the elementary level.  3) experience working with pre-service students, public-school faculty and administrators and 4) progressive view of public education that is inclusive and committed to social justice.  Preference given to candidates with experience teaching education courses at the college level; experience teaching at the elementary grades 1-6; and/or experience in the supervision of field -based programs.
