Second Round of Fire Inspections

October 30, 2020

As a result of our efforts, we have completed the first round of fire and life safety inspections, with over a 60% reduction in violations. While we performed amazingly well in this round, the process will continue on Thursday, Nov. 5, when our second round of inspections will take place. During this process the fire inspector will again travel campus with a focus on verifying all violations previously discovered have been satisfactorily abated. Over the next week Environmental Health & Safety staff, in cooperation with Facilities, will be working with areas to correct issues discovered. It is important to note that during this round we are still able to incur new violations. Violations that have not yet been corrected at this point may result in fines. Depending on the severity of the individual violation, fines range anywhere from $50 to $500 per day for every day the violation existed.

It is requested that any issues discovered be reported immediately so that they can be mitigated. Items that need attention from Physical Plant can be reported using the work order system or by calling (315) 267-2598. Important safety concerns can be reported directly to the Office of Environmental Health & Safety at (315) 267-2596, or by emailing robertcj@potsdam.edu. Be prepared! Here are the top 10 fire safety violations to avoid in office spaces.
