About the Artist:
Joel O’Dorisio has been a practicing artist and sculptor since 1988. After receiving a B.F.A. from the Ohio State University in 1991, he earned his M.F.A. from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred, N.Y. He worked for various artists post-graduation, and in 1998 opened his own studio and gallery, Lost Angel Glass, in Corning, N.Y. Fascinated by the beauty of trees and influenced by naturally beautiful landscapes and the gritty beauty of cities, O’Dorisio focuses his work on the connection between humanity and nature. He calls his sculpture work a “quiet metaphor of the interaction of humanity and the natural world.” He began teaching in 2005 and has since been the interim head of the glass area at Bowling Green State University and the acting coordinator of glass at the Ohio State University.
O’Dorisio’s teaching style places emphasis on helping students to accept any and all artistic challenges that they face in order to develop conceptual, technical, and professional prowess in their field. He encourages students to focus on their own artistic limitations in order to find new and creative ways to overcome or bypass those limitations. His main focus is on helping students prepare for overcoming obstacles that they face after graduation. For more information about Joel O’Dorisio, visit: www.joelodo.com.
