SUNY Potsdam is proud to host the American College Dance Association’s New England Conference from March 23-26, 2017 in the College’s Performing Arts Center. The conference will serve as a celebration of dance in higher education through a variety of scheduled events.
The conference will include four days of performances, workshops, panels and master classes taught by instructors from around the region and country, including SUNY Potsdam’s Department of Theatre and Dance faculty.
To kick off the conference, there will be a performance by the Jon Lehrer Dance Company on Wednesday, March 22 at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets for this performance are $5 for SUNY Potsdam students with ID and $10 for all other patrons. Tickets are available at the door, one hour before show time. Seating is limited.
Conference adjudicators will include Leah Cox, Carlos Jones and Christopher K. Morgan. Leah Cox is an educator, performer and choreographer. Cox currently holds the positions of Dean of the American Dance Festival and Associate Professor at Bard College. Cox also worked with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company in various capacities from 2001 to 2014.
Carlos Jones has a body of work that extends internationally from the concert stage to television and film. His eclectic background has brought him recognition as an international artist. Concert appearances include work with Loretta Livingston, Bethune Theatre Dance, Dance Kansas City Modern/Jazz Co. and his own Carlos Jones & Company. Among his theatrical credits are “Some Like It Hot,” “A Midsummer Night's Dream” and “It's a Pretty Good Life.”
Christopher K. Morgan is the Artistic Director of contemporary dance company Christopher K. Morgan & Artists (CKM&A), the Dance Artist in Residence at the University of Maryland and Director of Dance Omi, an annual collaborative residency for international choreographers in New York.
The educational mission of the Association is to foster creative potential, to honor multiple approaches to scholarly and creative research and activity, to promote excellence in choreography and/or performance, and to give presence and value to diversity in dance. The Association acts as a national membership service organization to strengthen the educational network for students and faculty within the academic dance community.
The American College Dance Association is a national organization that was established in 1971 by a group of college and university dance educators. The organization sponsors regional dance conferences at the college and university level, as well as national dance festivals.
As the number one ranked arts environment in the SUNY system, it is only fitting that such an event take place on SUNY Potsdam's campus.
