The School of Education & Professional Studies is accepting applications for a full-time, temporary clinical faculty/instructor to begin fall 2018 to support the Middle/Secondary Social Studies Education programs. Duties will include developing, supporting and supervising field experiences, including student teaching, in the middle/secondary social studies education program. The position may include teaching at an off-campus location. Successful candidate will incorporate national (NCSS) and NYS social studies standards/framework into his or her courses, participate and provide leadership in an inquiry and field-based program, provide support for the professional development of public school faculty, conduct student academic advising, serve in public service activities, and participate in the committee structure of the college.
Required qualifications: a U.S. teaching certificate in middle or secondary social studies education; Master’s degree from an accredited institution; ability to work with, and relate well to, college students, public school faculty, administrators, and parents; and at least five years’ teaching experience at either the middle or secondary school level. Preferred qualifications: experience in the teaching of education/Practica courses at the college level; experience with diversity issues and/or student populations; and experience with current EdTPA requirements and process.
Preference given to candidates with experience in field-based programs and the use of technology in education, expertise in NCSS standards-based, conceptual issues, and inquiry-based social studies practice. We are seeking candidates who possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues and who have demonstrated a commitment to creating, fostering and sustaining an inclusive environment in and out of the classroom.
