Update on Severe Weather Impacting State

November 30, 2019

Areas across New York State are expected to experience a severe winter storm beginning Sunday, December 1, and anticipated to last through Monday, December 2. We are monitoring the events of this storm closely, but at this time it does not appear that it will impact the North Country region heavily.

At this time, classes on Monday, December 2, are still operating under a normal schedule. Students and faculty are urged to monitor campus notifications for any additional updates pending weather conditions.

We encourage students who are returning back to campus on the North Folk College Express buses to check in to ensure service is still on time. Any changes and/or updates to the bus schedule can be found on their website: https://www.collegeexpressbus.com.

Our residence halls are open for students who wish to return to campus early.

SUNY Potsdam urges students to take extra precautions in the cold winter weather:

  • Take your time: Take extra caution on snowy or icy roads and sidewalks. Give yourself extra time, going slowly on slippery surfaces or in low visibility conditions. Before driving, warm up your car and clear all the snow and ice from your vehicle.
  • Trust your judgment: If it seems unsafe to be on the road, use your best judgment to decide whether to stay at home or ask for a ride.
  • Be prepared:
    • Bundle up—layers are best! Don’t forget about good winter footwear, hats and gloves or mittens on long walks to and from campus.
    • Make sure your car doesn’t get too low on fuel, and always keep an extra snow brush and blanket in the trunk of your vehicle.
