Vice President for College Advancement Vacancy

The College is accepting on-line nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for College Advancement. Reporting to the President, the Vice President provides creative vision, leadership, and direction to the Division of Advancement.  The Vice President leads a team of talented advancement professionals, with oversight of the College’s fundraising efforts, alumni engagement, stewardship, advancement services, and Community Performance Services; provides vision, leadership and direction for all initiatives aimed at enhancing the College’s development and philanthropic efforts, including corporate and foundation giving, and overseeing the next phase of the campus’s fundraising efforts as plan for and begin a new comprehensive campaign; serves as Executive Director of the Potsdam College Foundation, working closely with the Foundation Board of Trustees to provide stewardship and oversight of the Foundation assets, serves as a member of the President’s Council and campus Leadership Forum, and collaborates closely with the president and the entire campus community to develop strategic priorities for giving, fundraising acumen among campus members, to enhance the development capacity of the College; works collaboratively with the President’s Council and campus community on strategic planning; and represents the College at SUNY Advancement meetings and other professional fundraising and development meetings. 

Required qualifications include a completed bachelor’s degree; multiple years of progressive experience in advancement and evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and of ability to work collaboratively with constituencies from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred qualifications: Ten years of progressive experience in advancement, with demonstrated competence in fundraising and relationship development, particularly in seeking and closing major gifts, and the planning essential to undertake major fundraising campaigns and an annual fund; Established record of effective public speaking and interpersonal and written communication skills in an academic environment; Ability to initiate and successfully build relationships with prospective donors, alumni, volunteers, and foundation and corporate representatives; Organization, judgment, tact, a deep sense of confidentiality, and problem-solving skills are essential; Excellent interpersonal skills with a wide range of people, including faculty, staff, students, Foundation Trustees, and executives.

Must have strong networking skills; Strong leadership, prioritization, and time management skills, as well as skill in leadership and team development; Demonstrated understanding of best practices in fundraising, alumni engagement, donor recognition, volunteer development, and stewardship of financial assets; Must be able to take initiative with minimal guidance and be comfortable working both as an individual and as part of a team; Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The ability to work collaboratively with constituencies from diverse backgrounds; Experience with the development of budgets and the management and distribution of resources; Demonstrated understanding and management of Endowment and Restricted Funds; We are, especially, seeking candidates who have engaged in professional development activities to enhance knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and have worked collaboratively across various departments in fostering success of underrepresented groups and a supportive and inclusive environment for all.
