College in High School (CHS) is a program with high schools (mostly local high schools) where SUNY Potsdam grants college credit to students who complete advanced coursework in their high school classes. Each summer the Office of Graduate and Continuing Education reaches out to local high schools to solicit course proposals for any advanced classes they plan to offer in the upcoming academic year that they wish to be considered for college credit.
Course Review
The high schools submit their course syllabus/lesson plan, teacher's resume, and Instructor Information Form to the Office of Graduate & Continuing Education. The Office distributes to the academic department most closely associated with the course for review between June and August. The department should assign a faculty liaison (often the department chair) to work with the high school teacher if further course development is required and to observe at least one class session. At the end of the academic year, by July 1, we ask that one Faculty Liaison Completion Form be returned to the Office of Graduate & Continuing Education for each course for which you serve as a liaison for the purpose of departmental compensation. Please work with the Office of Graduate & Continuing Education on travel if you wish to visit the high school in person.
