The Writers' Block

Book a Session & FAQs

The "Writers' Block" is not about blocking your writing. It's a friendly community where student writers find peers to support you in your college writing assignments. It's always your work, and Writers' Block helps you make it better.

To request your own session, use our "book a session" link above or visit us in Lougheed Learning Commons 106, to the left as you enter from the quad. We'll match you with the best tutor for your assignment, and their available times can vary. So plan ahead and book your session, whether you reach out the day before or a week ahead of time.

Questions? Email wblock@potsdam.edu.

The Writers' Block offers virtual and in-person tutoring sessions. Book an individual session in advance or use our walk-in-hours.

Questions? Email wblock@potsdam.edu any time.

Additional Information

  • Virtual Writers' Block sessions are smooth and effective, 9 a.m. - 11 p.m. seven days a week.
Most sessions last 30-45 minutes, but they can be shorter if that fits your needs.

  • Email Feedback: Tutors can offer feedback on a draft over email at wblock@potsdam.edu
We won't edit your draft for you, but we'll share some pointers and suggestions. For this service, we need a solid draft to look over and at least 24 hours to respond. (If you want help coming up with ideas for your draft, please book a session with a tutor to have a conversation.)

  • Our quiet study space, computers, & printer are yours in Lougheed Learning Commons 106.
    • Weekdays 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. & Sundays, 3 - 7 p.m.

Our trained peer tutors help you write your paper the way you want to. We can’t edit for you, but we help you make good choices in your own writing.

  • Peer tutors are trained to help you gain confidence about your writing assignment.
  • Talk with a tutor and see your writing in a new light, even if you're just getting started.
  • Send us your assignment, your draft, your concerns -- whatever you've got.
  • No one writes perfectly on the first try! But you're in luck: we can help you figure it out.

Plan ahead and book your appointment. We offer email feedback and online tutorials through Teams. The Writers' Block services are always completely free for SUNY Potsdam students.
