Sexual assault is a significant challenge for colleges nationwide, affecting the health, mental health, and success of students and employees. Many campuses are working to address sexual assault, but lack assessment tools to understand the scope or nature of the problem. Colleges, such as SUNY Potsdam, are looking to climate surveys to fill this gap in knowledge.
By conducting climate surveys, campus response, intervention, and prevention efforts will be more successful and tailored to the needs of the individual campus community. Understanding other climate issues, such as students' and employees' knowledge about reporting policies and resources for victims, their attitudes about prevention, and their perceptions about how their community is addressing the problem of sexual violence, are critical pieces of information for improving campus responses.
