The Art Museum has a Permanent Collection of approximately 1900 objects including works on paper, paintings and sculpture that illustrate its mission of collecting and presenting contemporary, post-1950 art.
The Museum also maintains a small study collection of earlier works on paper. At this time the largest number of works in the Collection are from the mid-20th Century, which includes two special collections of Japanese and Italian contemporary art. Within the Japanese collection is one of the largest groups of paintings in the country by the avant-garde Gutai group (1954-1972).
Other than the two special collections, American art comprises the majority of the Permanent Collection with some representation of (non-Italian) European and Latin American artists. A few notable artists included are:
