SUNY Potsdam will make a decision on whether to move Commencement indoors by no later than 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, in the event of severe or extreme weather (such as lightning or freezing temperatures).
If the emergency plan is implemented, an email will be sent to all graduates, and an announcement will be made in local media outlets and on this website.
Under our emergency plan, SUNY Potsdam would hold two indoor ceremonies in the Maxcy Hall Ice Arena, at 10:15 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Each graduate will have four tickets for guests. All others can view the livestream of the ceremony from the Jerry Welsh Gymnasium, also in Maxcy Hall.
- Ceremony A (10:15 a.m.): Graduates from all other majors (see below)
- Ceremony B (3 p.m.): Master’s graduates, plus graduates from the departments of Business Administration, Public Health and Human Performance, Theatre & Dance and The Crane School of Music
For Ceremony A, graduate line-up will begin at 9:30 a.m., in the Maxcy Hall Fieldhouse. The procession will begin at 10:15 a.m.
For Ceremony B, the graduate line-up will begin at 2:15 p.m., in the Maxcy Hall Fieldhouse.
There will be a reception following each ceremony, in the Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.
There will be specially designated seating for guests who are physically challenged or who require special accommodations. A sign language interpreter will also take part in both ceremonies.
