The SUNY Potsdam Department of Theatre and Dance is proud to present the upcoming 2017 Student Choreographers Concert, titled “Spectrum.” The concert is a showcase of 19 choreographic works by student dancers, who have been creating and rehearsing their pieces throughout the fall semester.
The 19 dance works will be divided between two programs, which will all be performed in the Dance Theater, located in the SUNY Potsdam Performing Arts Center.
Program A will be presented on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. Program B will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.
While learning all of the elements that go into presenting concert dance, from choreography to lighting and costume design, the SUNY Potsdam students have also learned such applied fundamentals as leadership, time management and the collaborative process.
Spectrum is typically defined as “an array of entities ordered in accordance with the magnitudes of a common physical property.” The student choreographers all agreed that this definition could also describe the process of dancers coming together on stage, and even more so, the widely-ranged collection of works in the concert.
Student choreographers presenting works include: Carlie Bonilla, Atiya Clarke, Brooklyn Collier, Krystal Dawkins, Nicole Gibson, Kendall Hanrahan, Justice Kennedy, Justine Kennedy, Caitlyn Lane, Asyha Mosely, Cortney Nelsen, Devon Newsome, Luisanna Marte Olivo, Sarah Olsen, Mikayla Pike, Eliezer Quarless, Katherine Rubenacker, Shondelle Webster and Stephon Williams.
