Feel Right at Home
Our students and faculty represent many different races, ethnic groups and cultures and they come from all corners of the globe. But we are one strong community that celebrates and supports individuality on campus.
The Center for Diversity exists to assist all students, with an emphasis placed on students of color and diverse backgrounds, in their educational and personal transition and development at SUNY Potsdam. It is the expressed goal of the office to provide educational and social programs and services to help students meet their personal and professional goals. In its continued effort to afford students empowering opportunities, the CFD provides academic and personal advising as well as referrals to other campus services. The office also coordinates diversity training sessions, skill development workshops and leadership opportunities to assist in the college-wide appreciation for multiculturalism and diversity.
Another goal of the CFD is to provide opportunities for students to explore the region, such as the Adirondack State Park, just a short drive from campus. The CFD encourages student exploration and offers trips to the Adirondacks every semester—adventures ranging from whitewater rafting and ziplining to snow tubing and visiting Saranac Lake's Ice Palace. Embracing Adventure
In the fall of 2021, a group of adventurous students spent the day whitewater rafting along a 15-mile stretch of the Indian and Hudson Rivers in the heart of the Adirondacks. A month later, they were sailing through the air, ziplining from one treetop to the next in Lake Placid—all part of the new Live Now program at SUNY Potsdam that has been bringing together diverse groups of students for unforgettable outdoor adventures.
