The following program services will be available to you as an enrolled Bridges student at SUNY Potsdam:
Orientation Program:
- All Bridges students will connect with their dedicated Bridges Advisor and dive into the incredible program services available. This is also when students will take an exciting first step toward success by signing a learning contract that outlines their commitments and sets the stage for a successful college journey!
Academic Support:
- Bridges students will meet with their dedicated Bridges Advisor at least twice a month during their first semester, creating an amazing opportunity to stay on top of their academic progress. These meetings offer personalized guidance and support, helping students thrive academically, socially, and professionally.
Course Scheduling:
- Throughout their time in the program, Bridges students meet with their Bridges Advisor to select courses and better understand the College’s General Education Program and academic requirements. This guidance helps students stay focused and make informed decisions about their academic journey.
Tutoring Assistance
- Students can receive, upon request, free tutoring assistance in any of your content courses from a variety of sources so long as there are tutors available.
- There are several tutoring options for students, which can be found online. The SUNY Potsdam Writers' Block and Math Lab provide individual tutoring for applicable courses. Some students may also be eligible for free one-on-one tutoring through TRIO.
Bridges Group Meetings
- Bridges students are required to attend group meetings throughout the semester, covering both academic and non-academic topics. These meetings are designed to support a smooth transition into college and provide valuable tools for success.
- The Bridges Director will contact you directly when meetings are scheduled.
Selecting A Major
- Since approximately half of our students enter their first year without a major field of study (we call this an "Exploratory" major), a focus of the Bridges program is to assist you in this selection.
- During the fall semester, you will discuss options with your Bridges Adviser and attend career programs that introduce you to academic departments at Potsdam. Throughout each semester, program activities are designed to help you clarify your career goals and select a major that best prepares you to achieve them.
- Once you formally declare a major area of study you will be advised by a faculty member in your chosen department, although you are still expected to meet regularly with your Bridges Adviser.
Late Fee Waivers
- All Bridges students receive late fee waivers toward their semester bills, ensuring financial challenges do not hinder their academic progress.
Bridges Student Restrictions
Since getting off to a good academic start is very important, all Bridges students must comply with the following fall semester restrictions:
- To schedule a maximum of fifteen credit hours during the initial (fall) semester. (Some exceptions will be considered)
