Crane Symphony OrchestraThe Crane Symphony Orchestra is the second oldest college orchestra in the United States, and in its long legacy, students at Crane have worked with legendary conductors and musicians, such as Nadia Boulanger, Sarah Caldwell, Aaron Copland, Howard Hanson, Gunther Schuller, and Robert Shaw, to name a few.

Crane Youth Music has left a loving imprint on young lives for 50 years Exactly a half century after a brass horn announced the first bright note of Crane Youth Music, the camp remains an enduring symbol of the passion and purpose of the Crane School of Music—and a gift outright to scores of young people standing on the thresholds of futures that will likely receive significant definition from the chords of this pivotal summer week.
About CYM
Crane Youth Music (CYM) was founded in 1973. CYM has a history of outstanding and cost-effective musical training for middle- and high-school musicians, ages 12-18. CYM faculty and staff include Crane School of Music faculty and alumni supplemented by additional guest artists/teachers. More than 200 students have attended Crane Youth Music yearly and CYM alumni are performing in major symphonies or teaching in universities and schools nationally.
Programs
Crazy 8’s Initiative Elementary students in grades 3 & 4 can participate in the fun and exciting math program. A variety of patterns and number explorations take place and a multitude of games are played. This program is overseen by Math Education interns and volunteers from the Education Programs. Creating Digital Community Since the global pandemic shifted our ways of interacting with one another, Jamey Merkel ’18 ’20, a community health graduate student, has been instrumental in the success of two new online communities established in the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis.
