Healing Through Dance

Intertwining her academic interests in dance and psychology, Maribel Flores ’20 graduated from SUNY Potsdam with a singular vision for her future—to help people dealing with trauma through dance movement therapy. “I’ve always been curious about what combining dance and psychology would look like. This field is literally that, a nice balance of movement, psychology and studying human behavior. We use it to promote emotional, social, and cognitive states of wellbeing,” Flores explained.

Taking the Pulse of the World

Isaac Griffith ’15 & ’16 knows the importance of being involved, getting out of your comfort zone and opening a new horizon.

Rising on the Wings of Dance

It’s been a busy four years since the shadow of Zoe Walders ’16 spun through the performance spaces of the SUNY Potsdam Department of Theatre and Dance. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance, Walders immediately jumped into a performance role at Jacobs Pillow dance center in Beckett, Mass., and acted in the Rochester-based independent student film “It Didn’t Mean Anything.” From there, the dance and choreography work arrived on a steady tide, immersing Walders in 14 different endeavors through 2018-19.

Laura Wessing ’15

It’s hard to imagine a student doing more with their time at SUNY Potsdam than alumna Laura Wessing ’15. In four years, she graduated summa cum laude with a double major in computer science and mathematics, as well as getting a master’s degree in math through the BA / MA program. Wessing also completed three internships, two of which were with the U.S. Air Force. She now leads the quantum algorithms team at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, N.Y.—overseeing complex research on quantum bits.

Tabitha Brown ’20

It’s never too late to go back to school. Just ask Tabitha Brown ’20, who is back in college after a 25-year hiatus. After raising a family and homeschooling her children, she decided it was time to complete her bachelor’s degree—starting the same year her daughter went off to college. Brown is now excelling as a non-traditional student in SUNY Potsdam’s Department of History, where she has been delving into local history projects to explore Northern New York’s past.

Rosario Fuschetto '18 & '19

It’s probably safe to say that Rosario Fuschetto ’18 & ’19 is the only music student at The Crane School of Music who also plays video games professionally. When he’s not conducting, playing his clarinet or teaching music theory, you’ll find him grinding it out on the old school Nintendo Game Cube on “Super Smash Brothers Melee”—a game he’s mastered as much as his music pedagogy.
